Tombow's 8900 pencil has been delivering performance and reliability since it was introduced in 1945 as an ultra-luxury pencil for photo retouching. It is now widely recognized as one of the best general writing pencils in the world, valued for its consistency and quality.  Tombow itself was founded in 1913 as is noted on each pencil.

With design that has remained essentially unchanged since the beginning, the Tombow 8900's beautiful packaging contrasts nicely with the humble simplicity of the pencils within, lacquered in olive green with various gold and white imprints.
